I actually agree with esther!!!!!! hehe i think that so much is said through body language and actions rather than words-however it can lead to some confusion and some things get lost in translation-so words are just there to specify details and are like the 'and' & 'buts' of communication.

Well, if we didn't speak words, it would be more difficult, because
    a) if you used actions, what if someone was handicapped and couldn't do anything and
    b) writing and reading would take longer

Although if we use both!! Actions tend to speak louder than words, if done correctly

If you notice many languages have similarities, so it's proabaly like you've got a group of people speaking one language and then they split into 2 groups and then the languages change in different ways so after a couple of hundred years they are completely different.
Geek, boff, nerd, etc.- all of them are simply ways of complimenting your cleverness and revealing the insulter's own lack of cleverness. So Esther, do not feel ashamed but proud that George called you a geek!

You know a person's losing an argument when they resort to insults.

Geeks and Nerds can be people who work hard ... but don't get anywhere, so they are not clever.

Was Jesus losing an argument when he called people heretics etc? That's an insult.

I'm not sure Jesus was in an argument when he said those things. My point is if somue is betaing you down in a argument and you just start insulting them and swearing at them you know that that guy has lost.

Well I guess the words came before the word "words" came about and then they just got called "words" because we needed a name for them.

It's a bit like pants really, I was discussing this with my friend once and I don't think it was a case of: We've got pants where shall we put them? I think it was more: We need pants.

'Nerd' was actually a term computer obsessed guys called themselves to show their 'superiority', but it has become derogatory over the years...strange.

But anyway...words. We only have to look at Juan to see that if we were all as good as him at sherrades then we could get an awefully long way in life (i.e. sign-language). This is very much like a normal language but less expressive.

Look at words as a way of allowing diversity and expression

I think we use words to describe things with our voices , using dialect, accents and tone however body launguage can give away how we actually feeling e.g if a person seays they are happy but are not talking to ayone and has thier head in thier hands.. well that just defeats the object does it not?? On the other hand if we only used body language to communicate it would be well......Pants really lol ALSO only using words would be a drawback to because well then people wouldn't truly know what people were feeling!!!! Answering the seperate language question wasen't there a story in the bible saying that people were building a big tower to reach heaven but that was just putting them off god so god got mad and gave them seperate languages?:boogie:
